Yes, Please bring back Kunzle cakes and Jap cakes (they were served in the restaurant opposite Snowhill station, Birmingham). I enjoyed them immensely. If S. Warren believes that his diabetes is due to consuming them I would gently suggest that he carries out a little research into the causes (and suspected causes). I am 78, have had diabetes type 2 for 30 years or so, and because of wartime and peacetime rationing I have never over indulged in sugar products – I certainly do not blame Kunzles (or Cadburys) for my disability. There must be a market for really delicious cakes. Bring them back.

I remember as a very small girl going to Stratford on Avon in the 1960′s and being treated to Kunzle cakes since then I have never forgotten that wonderful treat..Here in Tasmania Australia , I crave a taste again… if they were to strt to manufacture them here I’m sure they would be a huge hit.
Is it impossible to find them anywhere or are they like the Dodo extinct..

I can’t offer much help regarding the “showboat cakes”, I’m afraid, as I’ve never even eaten one, but I did work with Kunzles at the Five Ways factory for six months or so back in 1953. I had just immigrated from Ireland as a 19-year-old, and was taken on as a fondant-maker. I vividly remember the large sweet-making machines and the mouth-watering pies – they made a lot more than cakes at Five Ways.
I later served 15 years in the Royal Signals, did 3 years at Birmingham University for my electronics degree, worked 10 years as an executive with British Telecom, and have lived in Paris, as a freelance technical translator, for the last 25 years.

I absolutely loved Kunzle cakes and have fond memories of eating them for tea in a beach chalet in Pembrokeshire in West Wales when I was a child in the 60′s! I will check out if Waitrose stock them as I was only talking about them to a friend last week and she suggested I google to find out ….. and here I am!!! Thank goodness for google and people who loved Kunzle cakes like me!

i also remember kunzle cakes and hope they will make a return. does anyone else remember a chocolate bar called americo. the taste was out of this world but like kunzle cakes they just disappeared.still you cant please everyone and s. lester at least will be pleased.sorry!

as kids we use to love them that chocolate cup with mousse creamy inside bring them back you will make a fortune they just dont make sweet cakes like that anymore xxx

I remember them very well, a real treat and a mini work of art. They are a product just waiting to be developed. But i doubt the big boys would be interested.

I remember Kunzle cakes from my childhood in the fifties. A very special treat and they were wonderful. I remembered them this evening and thought I would try the internet to see if anyone else remembered them and was pleased to see how many do. It is hard to imagine why no one has brought them back. The difference between then and now is that, for example, a bar of chocolate or a special cake were an infrequent treat – there were no huge bags of sweet bars or an expectation that a sweet or bought cake would be a daily event. These days when hot cross buns and cream eggs can be bought the whole year round those special treats are no longer special and that is a pity.

please bring back kunzle showboats as a child i would visit the local village shop and with my pocket money was able to buy myself one of the gorgeous cakes i particularly remember the various shapes topped with either lemon strawberry or chocolate and wrapped individually. I would love my children and grandchildren to sample these little delights as i also would again. please also bring back japs too!
