kunzel cakes, my grandmother used to serve them as an afternoon tea time treat.
they were a marvellously exotic and special treat for us as children.
i am 48 now, so it has been many decades since i tasted one, but i can remember it as if was yesterday.
please will someone not revive this treat. so much nicer than anything available now.

I'm just coming up to 40 years of age and remember with great affection, as does my Mum, the fantastic Kunzel cakes. As a child my Grampy used to bring them for my brother and I as a treat, and they certainly were. We long for them to be brought back. My husband on the other hand has no recollection of these little marvels! Did he miss out or what. So come on someone please get them back into production.

I remember these "cakes" from around 1961, my parents had a grocers store in a place called Tyldesley (near Leigh). I recall the "cakes" were wrapped individually and were displayed in a display box on the shop counter. The shop was on Shuttle Street and sadly was demolished some years ago.I was eating some chocolates made by Thorntons this morning. The chocolates reminded me of the Kunzle cakes. I mentioned it to my wife, she did a "Google" search.........and hence my recollection. It's a pity that whoever has the recipe does not market them again.

I don't remember the showboats - must have been too expensive for my mum. I knew Kunzel Cakes as having a coconut creamy base with very thick chocolate topping, in boxes of six from Fine Fare supermarket. They were to die for as I recall, and my childhood ambition was to have a box to myself! A secondary joy was the abundance of paper cases the cakes were in, 36 was my record for one cake. BRING THEM BACK, or at least a recipe!!!

My sister and I were remembering the some of our best childhood memories and kunzel cakes at granny's featured very prominently;|Not one of Lyons best decisions to let those go! We talk about those teatimes so fondly all my friends and children want to know where they can find a kunzel cake now. My favorite one was topped with yellow icing and chocolat wiggly lines with a chocolate button in the middle. Mmmmm halcyon days!

I remember my mum giving me pocket money & I would go to the local shop and buy the chocolate & white Kunzel cale. Didn't like the strawberry or orange ones!
They were absolutely lovely. I am 50 now and I have not even found a recipe to make similar. Any idea's. I have spoken to many people over the years about these cakes and all said they would love to buy them again.
Can't believe no company has taken up the idea and make them. Especially as people love the fancy cake industry now.

I am 66, when I was 15 I trained as a ladies hairdressers in Cambridge, if I got a tip I would find a spare minute to rush along to Lyons cafe to buy a kunzle cake the round chocolate one. All these years I have quietly drooled at the thought of those truly wonderful cakes.

I mentioned this to my sister this weekend and asked if she remembered them, her response was such that both our husbands were startled by our joint reactions. Sadly for them they had never enjoyed those wonderful indulgences.

I actually don't enjoy cakes but those were something entirely different to call them cakes was almost an insult they were little chocolate miracles. I wish I could make something as good I would make myself a fortune.

I've heard of the Kunzle cake (my nan was always asking me to look out for them). It seems that they were the big birthday treat - in the 50's... A trip to the 'pictures'; and then tea and a kunzel cake.

I'd love to see them back - we need more things like this ! yours hopefully, Emmzy,21, Enfield
